On Sunday, January 18th, I woke up and ate Cocoa Puffs with Lucas and played Geo Trax and then bam, 9:30 a.m. arrives and I am in the worst pain I have ever felt. David and I guess that it's bladder related but not really sure at first. It was scary because it was my left front, left side and really bad in my left back area. I started throwing up and then the pain got worse! I told David we needed to go to the hospital! I told him later, you know I was in pain because I hadn't showered, I had no makeup on and I was wearing an old high school softball sweatshirt and my TN Tech sweatpants! I normally wouldn't even answer the door this way let alone go out somewhere! We headed to the closest ER which was Stonecrest Medical in Smyrna. When we got there, the ER had approximately 20 people waiting to be seen. I thought I was going to die! I was crying and then I had to throw up again and while I was doing that, they called my name. They apparently thought it was as big of an emergency as we did and since I was pregnant we got to go before several unhappy people!! They took me in and took my vitals and determined I needed to go to the maternity floor. They wheeled me over to the check in counter so we could give our insurance info. I had to request a bucket for you guessed it, more throwing up! I mean, this was some serious pain!!! Uncle Michael came and got Lucas who had been a very good sport and took him to his and Ger Ger's house. FINALLY they wheeled me upstairs but to a delivery room with a breakaway bed for when you are in labor! They said that was all they had. My feet hung off the bed about a foot and a half! I had to give them a pee sample and then it took them 2 hours to get me pain medication! Poor David! I was crying and moaning and beating the bed and hitting the nurse's station button begging for something. I made him go out in the hall and check! Luckily, we had already confirmed the baby was fine and it was obviously something else! The last time I beeped them they finally came down but gave me 2 Percacet (spell?) pills! No dice! I threw them up immediately and thank goodness because it would have been another 30 minutes before they kicked in. They had started an IV of fluids so they decided to put some morphine in the IV. They did one, um nope, they did 2, sorry, still dying here, finally, 3rd time was a charm! Relief! They told me they thought I had a kidney stone. I had relief for about 2 hours and then the pain came back just as strong. I had to wait another 2 hours in pain before I could get the 3 shots of morphine again! They admitted me and did an ultrasound and tried to get me to eat a liquid diet but I just couldn't stop throwing up all day and night. I had 7 bags of fluid go through my IV and every time I went to the bathroom I threw up. They finally got the pain under control and the next morning around 6 a.m. I was lucky enough to pass the stone. What an experience! I don't wish a kidney stone on my worst enemy! When I saw it, I felt like a pansy! I was expecting a boulder from that pain! They did tell me it was a really good size one though! Through the whole thing, Brooklyn was a kicking and a moving away! Probably because she was hungry!!!
I had a regular scheduled OBGYN appointment on Wednesday and I asked my doctor if the doctor on call on Sunday and told her that I was at Stonecrest with a kidney stone. She said, "Oh yeah! I couldn't believe it because I had just seen you at the Predators game the night before on the jumbo tron!" Too funny that she saw Lucas and I on the TV and then that was her first thought when being told I was in the hospital! I had to do the glucose test and passed it thank goodness! At 27 weeks my total weight gain for the pregnancy was 14 pounds. Here is a belly shot at 27 weeks.
Sorry for the long blog but I wanted to have it documented for myself!
