The Grand Canyon is Certainly Grand!

On Monday, July 6th, we headed to the little town of Williams to catch the train at the Grand Canyon Railway. Jill & Lou had already seen the Grand Canyon about 3 times but had never taken the train and were very nice to go see it again with us Prings! The boys were so excited to ride the train and couldn't wait to get there.

After we got our tickets we were told that there would be a cowboy shootout at the corral before we boarded. We made our way over there and sat in the front row and 2 of the cowboys came over and talked to Lucas and Logan a lot and even gave them a fired bullet. During the show, they asked David to come out and participate. They said they needed some money and wanted to play cards with a tourist. They made him carry our bag and later referred to it as his purse! There was loud shooting and cheesy jokes but it was a lot of fun. The train ride was 2 hours there and 2 hours back and you had 3 hours in between to see the Canyon.

When we arrived it was starting to look cloudy so we took a few pictures and then headed to The Arizona Room to eat lunch. We were seated just in time!! We had great seats with a view of the rim and we could see the storm come in and lightning strike down in the canyon. People were running and getting soaked! We ate lunch and it was still raining so we ordered dessert! It was a hard sacrifice! By the time we finished up dessert, the rain had stopped and it had cooled off a bit. It really was a perfect temperature to walk around in. By this time, we only had about 45 minutes left to catch the train. We walked around and took more pictures and then boarded for our 2 hour ride back to Williams. Lucas slept almost the entire way back. There was entertainment on the train with singers and then a fake cowboy robbery. They also served us cokes and pointed out interesting things along the way.

It was a fun way to see something so amazing. David and I both knew the Grand Canyon would be huge but it was so much bigger than what we thought. It's so deep that from the rim we couldn't even see the Colorado River. I guess we will have to go back and take a tour!
